Connect iPhone Microphone to a Bluetooth Speaker
To connect your iPhone microphone to a Bluetooth speaker you do two separate things, and only one of them is an app's job. iOS Settings pairs the speaker. A live pass-through app then plays your microphone into whatever output iOS has already chosen. If the speaker is missing from the output list, the pairing is what is broken, and no app will fix that for you.
Step one: iOS Settings does the pairing, not the app
No iPhone app can pair a Bluetooth speaker. There is no public API for it, so nothing you install can scan for a speaker, send a pairing request, or move your audio onto it. An app can read which output route iOS is currently using and play into it. That is the whole job, and it is true of every app in this category, including ours.
So the setup starts in Settings, every time.
- Put the speaker in pairing mode. On most portable speakers that is a dedicated Bluetooth key, not the power button, held until the LED blinks fast.
- Open Settings → Bluetooth. Wait for the speaker to appear under Other Devices, tap it, and wait until the line reads Connected.
- Play a song. If it comes out of the speaker, the route is correct and the microphone will follow it.
Step three is the one people skip. A speaker can be paired and still not be the active output, and that is exactly the state that makes an app look broken.
You can prove the whole chain before installing anything. Open the live microphone monitor on the phone, allow the mic, and speak. If your voice comes out of the Bluetooth speaker there, pairing and routing are both fine, and the rest of this page is tuning rather than fixing.
Step two: send the iPhone mic to the Bluetooth speaker
With the route already set, a pass-through app just opens the microphone and writes it to the current output. It records nothing, stores nothing and has no server, so it runs offline.

A sane first run of an iPhone microphone and Bluetooth speaker setup looks like this:
- Stand a couple of metres from the speaker before you unmute, and point the speaker away from you.
- Start the gain near 50 percent and walk it up while someone else listens from the back of the room.
- Leave the preset on Normal until the level is right. Bright and Megaphone push energy into 2–6 kHz, the band that starts feedback fastest.
- Turn on echo reduction only if the room is boomy. It is a high-pass filter that thins the low end deliberately.

The Bluetooth speaker does not show up as an output
This is the failure that sends people searching mid-party. It is almost always one of six states, and none of them are the app's doing.

If the speaker connects and still sounds wrong on music alone, the fault is upstream of anything a microphone can cause. Run a channel check and a sweep with the speaker test first, so you know whether you are chasing a dead driver or a routing mistake.
How much delay to expect once it works
Your voice will arrive at the speaker late. That is not a bug in the app or the speaker: the delay lives in the codec's encode and decode, plus the buffer the receiver keeps against dropouts. No app removes Bluetooth latency, and a listing promising zero latency is quoting a number it never measured.

What those numbers feel like: under about 20 ms is unnoticeable, 40–50 ms is where a mouth and a sound stop lining up on video, and past roughly 100 ms it feels like a bad phone call. Live self-monitoring is far harsher than passive listening, so a guest across the room may not notice the delay that makes the person holding the phone stumble.
Rather than guess which band you are in, measure it. The Bluetooth latency test plays a short chirp, records it back through the microphone, cross-correlates the two, runs five times, takes the median and subtracts the flight time for the distance you enter. That number is your speaker, your phone, your room. Stopping the squeal before it starts
The moment the speaker's output reaches the phone's microphone loudly enough, the loop runs away and you get the howl. Distance and direction fix that more reliably than any filter: keep the phone behind the speaker, not in front of it, and the gain no higher than the room needs.
If iOS is still routing to the phone's own speaker, the app caps gain at 60 percent and warns you, because a phone monitoring itself at full gain feeds back within a second. The cap lifts as soon as a Bluetooth speaker, headphones or AirPlay takes the route. If you see that warning, the Bluetooth connection is not the active output and you are back at step three above.

What this setup cannot do
Four limits, so you do not spend an evening chasing something that does not exist.
- Live Listen will not do this. It is built for AirPods and hearing devices, not for a Bluetooth speaker. The details are in why Live Listen refuses your Bluetooth speaker.
- The phone is the microphone, not a receiver. An iPhone cannot be made to play audio coming from another device's microphone over Bluetooth. Audio goes phone out to speaker, never speaker in to phone.
- Do not use the speaker's own microphone. A Bluetooth link holds one profile at a time, so asking for a headset microphone drops stereo A2DP for narrowband mono, and iOS gives you no control over that switch. Keeping the phone as the microphone is why this arrangement sounds better than a Bluetooth headset.
- You cannot pick the codec on an iPhone. iOS negotiates AAC and offers no picker, and no iPhone has aptX in any form, so the latency band above is the one you get. Android does expose a Bluetooth audio codec selector in Developer options, and changing it shifts latency somewhat rather than dramatically. Check it before it matters
Ten minutes the day before beats troubleshooting in front of forty people. Run this in the real room, with the real speaker, at the volume you will use.
- Pair in Settings and confirm music plays out of the speaker.
- Open the live monitor and speak at a normal level. Watch the meter, not just your ears.
- Measure the round trip once and write the number down.
- Walk the room with the phone and find the spot where feedback starts. Stay a metre inside it.
- Charge both devices. A nearly flat speaker drops the link mid-sentence.
